Trucks with a swap body system can be used for intermodal transport. This means that the swap bodies are (or can be) suitable for transport by truck as well as by ship or train. Thanks to such a system, products or goods in the body no longer need to be transferred one by one, but are transferred together with the loading unit. This saves time and therefore costs for the transport of these products or goods. Types of swap bodies

Swap bodies come in various types and sizes. Always check carefully for which sizes and/or versions the swap body system on your truck is suitable. There are a number of different swap body variants:

Classic swap body

Similar to a sea container, however, the classic swap bodies are made of a much lighter material. It is also possible with this type of swap bodies that the side and/or top are made of tarpaulins. All in all, this makes the classic swap body not suitable for stacking.

A-Behalter

The type A-Behalter (German term for loading body) refers to loading bodies that are longer than 12 metres. This type of body is also not stackable.

C-Behalter

The type C-Behalter refers to bodies that are generally wider and/or longer than standard 20ft sea containers, but shorter than 12 metres. Basically, the C type loading body is also not stackable, but because this could cause problems for maritime transport, a stackable version has also been made. The smallest variant is a C 715, where the number stands for the length in centimetres. 

BDF and Renova best known brands

It goes without saying that lorries must be equipped with swap body systems in order to be able to transport the right containers. The best known brands of swap body systems are the systems of BDF and Renova.
